Our
Story
Although the Petitjean family's roots were born and are still evolving in Champagne, it is in the Rhône Valley that the family can now express all its creativity and put into practice its sense of welcome and hospitality. The story began with Etienne Cochet, a wine merchant and cooper, in 1846, a date that marked almost 200 years of commitment to winegrowing and the terroir.
It was Pol, his son, who went on to develop his own vineyards and Champagne, an activity later taken over by the first Petitjean, Henri, his son-in-law. The family's commitment to the terroirs of Champagne continued at the head of the Institut OEnologique de Champagne, which was succeeded by 3 generations of oenologists.
Eric Petitjean will be heading south in 2010 to discover new terroirs. With Jean-Pierre Valade, oenologist and winemaker, they will make their first takeover, Château la Croix des Pins, at the foot of Mont Ventoux, the cornerstone of the family's development in the Rhone Valley.
It's a place that's both generous in terms of the terroir it uses to create fresh, gourmet wines, but also a place where people are welcomed and encouraged to share. A first estate in 2010, and 9 years later, a second, turning to Rasteau with Domaine des Nymphes, one of the appellation's historic estate.
In 2023, they set their sights on the Dentelles de Montmirail, the other mythical peak of the southern Rhône Valley, to take over a hilltop estate, a hidden gem of the appellation that would allow the handover to the next generation, Jérôme and Sarah. The story continues with Eric's son Jérôme and his wife Sarah, who want to continue the family adventure and showcase these exceptional terroirs through wines that invite to sharing and conviviality.
